Listening to Robyn, actually watching on YouTube. I loved her since back in the days of "Show me love" and "Do you really want me?". Then after that I don't think she had much airplay back in the Philippines. She did at the time was kinda like the Pokemon singers. Sort of high pitched and Pikachu like singing. Everybody was doing that, I think even up to now a lot of boy bands, girl bands and singers still sing like a Pokemon. The one you just watched is "Dancing in my own", I discovered it on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars as a "lip sync for your life" song. I'll do a longer post about Robyn later after I listen to more of her songs.
Thinking back now, I actually liked more female performers back then than male performers. That said not their complete albums, probably 1-2 songs they released. Lets name a few so I can also update my train ride playlist. I liked a couple of songs by Alanis Morrisette such as Ironic, No Pressure Over Cappuccino (this one I liked probably just 2-3 years ago), Head Over Feet, and King of Pain(Sting's song). Spice Girls, of course, I have all their albums so no need for a run down I guess. The girl bands on the Big Reunion.
I did say I would do a run down of the bands performing on The Big Reunion so lets do one about The Honeyz. Lets beat some of them procrastination away. I remember The Honeyz specially Heavenli because when I first saw their video before I was guessing if I'm watching a Diana Ross or Janet Jackson's video. Their back story was kind of interesting. It started of with Selena and Heavenli singing together for months before a record label signed them. Different from 911, they can sing but the record label added a "pretty one" to the bunch. As most bands, one of the members (usually the lead singer) is a bitch and makes the other members quit. In this case, it was Selena. After they were signed with Def Jam to rival Destiny's Child, Heavenli just quit. No reason, wouldn't answer calls, just that. Imagine how bitchy was who ever it was?
After that they got back up and became even bigger when they got a new member who is a midwife now. Everything seems good and smooth sailing for their career but not backstage. The new member told that someone tried to sit on her then boyfriend's lap, I don't care if they want to secure the gig but the producers should have said who it was! Then newest member also quits. (Lead singer... Wink wink... Yeah what I told you?) When you watch their story, actually, this is so juicy. It is actually the record label who is the biggest bitch of them all! LOL So what they did was bring back Heavenli and give a sort of deal or no deal move. Take Heavenli or they will be dropped they did took the deal but eventually flopped and got dropped.
Fast forward to last year, the reunited members are not the ones you would expect. It was the lead singer bitch and the 2 who quit on her. It was an awkward conversation when they tried to sort things out. Obviously a move just to gather attention to the press because its the haters back together. I haven't found episode 6 yet so I dunno what else is happening.
Lets move on to other female artists at the time that I liked. I like Björk, which they said is read as jerk. I dunno I'm Chinese not Icelander. I do have a couple of favorites, Hyerballad is on top of the list I just love it. I also remember her video for "I miss you", I don't know of Ren & Stimpy yet back then but it was a very memorable video. It never made sense to me just that it was in cartoon that's how it captured my attention.
I did go to Golden Center like I said on my previous post, walked about and looked around. Castlevania is available I just didn't buy it. I dunno it's my sort of retirement notion not to spend to much anymore. The rate that this economy is going my insurance will bite me in the bum. So I sort have a self-control contract, I had it since I was 21 or... Well since my 20's that when I reached 30 I would only spend what I need; mostly. I do still have about 4 months before it starts but I need to start saving my rent contract is ending. I'm getting depressed and shopping has been a distraction for me not therapy who ever said its therapy are crazy. Get over it, senseless shopping is not therapy it's just distraction.
Lets finish off with the Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing). I have been eyeing this technology for awhile now. It's smaller than a Mac Mini. It is 4 inches by 4 inches in size and 1.5 inches tall. There are 2 versions of it. One has aThunderbolt port which costs HK$200 more than the dual-HDMI port version which costs HK$2380 (RAM and HDD not included). I have been planning to get one to do a little Hackintosh. I've searched about and found that it is can easily be installed on this little thingy. The processor is an i3 3217-U, 2 SO-DIMM slots for 1333/1600 MHz memory support, and with 2 mini-PCIe slots for expansion.
I googled on setting up the NUC, hothardware.com wrote an article about it. They gave it a good review but also pointing out a couple of cons. One of which is that a wifi card can cause the system to lockup. Another one is that there are no USB 3.0 port but then, of course it don't for that price. Lastly, it is a small size system so expandability is obviously limited. Will I get it? I haven't decided because I might just go for a refurbished Mac instead.
Ooh! My posting has improved I guess averaging 700+ words for each post. But I haven't figured out if I want to make multiple posts per day with dedicated topics. But we'll do that when the chicken crosses the river LOL.
